Physician - Family Practice

Location: Fort Knox, Kentucky

Provide medical care and treatment of diseases and/or injuries. Review medical histories and progress of patients. Examine patients, make diagnosis of disease, or injury, and treat patie nt or prescribe a course of treatment. Abide by all facility rules, regulations, and policies.

Conserve the health of patients through the application of diversified knowledge of preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic medical procedures.

Seek advice of consultants, when appropriate.

Oversee and monitor other medical personnel in the care and treatment of patients to include non-therapeutic services such as physical examinations.

Initiate requests for tests and imaging as appropriate.

Follow-up on abnormal reports. Abnormal imaging and lab reports received on patients seen by the HCWs shall be reviewed by the HCW within five days of its receipt.

Prescribe medications, as appropriate, and in accordance with the privileges, MTF rules, and regulations.

Prepare documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with MTF directives, ensuring that all documentation and reports are legible and complete. Utilize the appropriate e lectronic medical record system for patient encounters.

Refer all requests for patient/MTF information that cannot be handled by clinic personnel to the Patient Administration Division. After normal duty hours, requests should be referred to the Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) or appropriate authorized personnel. Neither the contractor nor HCWs shall release medical information without prior coordination with the AOD.

Adhere to the Center for Disease Control guidelines concerning universal precautions and the MTF Infection Control Program at all times while providing services under this contract.

Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all JC standards.

Perform a general physical examination. Record the findings in proper format and determine medical qualification for various purposes.

Select the most appropriate diagnosis and treatment in cases of uncomplicated common illnesses and injuries.

Recognize those more c omplicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.

Plan and initiate proper treatment within the HCW's defined privileges and the scope of practice of the facility.

Identify and report those situations and individual cases, which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.

Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.

Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to physician care.

Determine appropriate means of evacuation of emergency patients, prepare patients for evacuation, and arrange for evacuation support.

Perform the following blocks: Digital, Local Infiltration, and Intercostal.

Initiate management in an emergency in accordance with BLS training.

Write consults referring patients to other specialty clinics. In accordance with scope of practice, administer treatment and therapy in those cases which are minor and simple to the degree that ambulatory, short term treatment is sufficient.

Independently prescribe medications from approved formulary. Administer intra-muscular medication. Issue temporary profiles according to hospital policy.

See 3 patients per hour minimum and complete the medical documentation as part of the patient visit electronically within 24 hours of the encounter.

See patients of all ages.

Expect at least 21 patient encounters a day.

Identify and report those situations and individual cases, which have public health significance and carry out effective control measures.

Clearly communicate to other health personnel either orally or in writing the findings, diagnosis, and planned treatment regimen.

Stabilize and manage a patient in a medical or surgical emergency and/or transfer to phys ician care.

Physician Core Duties:
  • Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.
  • Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical pri vileges or responsibilities.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.
  • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

Education

Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.)
Licensure: Current, full, active, and un restricted license to practice medicine. Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted state license in any state in the United States, District of Columbia, or the territory of Puerto Rico to practice medicine, and a current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration. The licenses and registration must be renewed and maintained in a current status during the life of the contract.
Certifications:
Board eligible or board certified. Must have graduated a 4-year medical school program followed by a 3-year intensiveresidency program in internal medicine. HCWs will need to pass the Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) before being able to practice. In addition, most internists must be board certified in internal medicine. Pursuing certification will not be accepted â€" No waiver.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support or other advanced certification does not Supersede BLS certification.
Internship/Residency: Successful completion of an i nternship and residency program (corresponding to the specialty title) which has been approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical
Education or the Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association. Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training). For purposes of this requirement, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Associa tion of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the time the degree was obtained (e.g. Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Qualifications

Must have a minimum of 12 months experience in the past 24 months.

Experience as required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.

Must be a U.S. citizen.

Must be able to acquire a Contractor Access Card pass a personal background investigation.

Must be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.

Must possess basic computer skills.
